Nigardsbreen is one of the most famous glaciers in Europe. It is an outlet glacier from the Jostedalsbreen icecap, and it’s glacier foreland has a fantastic chronology of moraine ridges. Experience the glacial prosesses that carved the fjords and landscape of Norway, and hear the dramatic story of Jostedalen by joining our guided hike up to the glacier.
We meet up at Nigardsbreen car park, only 3 km from Breheimsenteret, and we take the boat for a little roundtrip on the glacier lake. From the lake we walk through the newly deglaciated areas up to the front of the glacier. Up by Nigardsbreen viewpoint we will have a lunchbreak and taste the salt-cured lamb from Nigardsbreen valley. We offer packed lunches at Breheimsenteret, wich are great for a hike like this.
The interactive exhibition and slide show film at Breheimsenteret are included in the price, so make sure to visit the centre before or after the guided hike.
The trip is suitable for all ages and takes about 2.5 hours. Buy your tickets at the Breheimsenter or at the meeting point – the car park by Nigardsbrevatnet.
